DERELICT buildings always fascinated me as a child. “What lies behind those tangled fences?,” I wondered.
But after my first ‘explore’ in an abandoned castle, I now know.
Through the barbed wire fence and beyond the ‘Do not enter’ sign, I clamber into the castle, camera in hand, and into a desolate and dangerous world of discovery.
My heart pounds as rotten wood crunches underfoot, and I know I shouldn’t really be here, but there’s something so satisfying and exciting about being somewhere you shouldn’t be. I look around in amazement at the moss-covered walls surrounding me, grabbing every opportunity to capture this eery atmosphere on my digital SLR.
It does not take long before I find my next shot. One turn, and there’s another interesting site: a fallen wooden beam. I also spot a rusted hook jutting out the wall; trees entwining INSIDE the corridors; and green leaves sprouting out the brickwork.
